Days to go : 6
No it's not a new rock band it's a few things dealt with this weekend.
Cladisporium resinae is a fungal infestation that breeds in fuel tanks when the conditions are right. Obviously the conditions must have been right in my tank because they've moved in with a vengeance
. When they breed they give off a black waste which sinks to the bottom of the tank and blocks the filters. It lives of diesel but like veg oil even more. I am managing bout 20 miles per filter at the moment.
Tomorrow I intend to buy some diesel biocide and treat the tank with the hope that it will cure the problem. Stopping every 20 miles to change the filter between here and Marseilles does not sound very desirable. I will keep you informed......
A couple of late night social events over the weekend, combined with lousy weather kept us firmly indoors. So we took the opportunity to pack some of out clothes, throughly check all the cooking equipment and sort the documents out.
We need to take our driving licences, vehicle log book, MoT, insurance, etc. etc. So I photocopied everything so that we could keep the originals in the car safe. I also took the time to scan each of the documents and upload them to my 'Google docs' account.
This excellent facility means that, so long as we can access the internet, we can get a copy of our documents anywhere. In addition I have 'shared' access to them with Alan and Janet (my sister) so that they can fax them or email them to an embassy on our behalf if necessary.
You may have noticed that the countdown has extended by a day. We have decided to give Belgium a miss for now, as the weather in October didn't seemed too ideal for trudging around trenches, and head straight down to Avignon.
We will leave early on Sunday and aim for a hotel near Reims and then move on on Monday. We will aim for Avignon on Tuesday giving us an extra day in the south of France before the ferry.
