"No man can live this life and emerge unchanged. He will carry the imprint of the desert, the brand which marks the nomad; and he will have a yearning to return. For this cruel land can cast a spell which no temperate climate can match."

4 days to go

This morning started with a trip up to Wroxham to Norfolk Marine, to buy some biocide, en route to the office.

At lunchtime I visited JSF  with a long shopping list of bearings, brake pads, filters and other bits.  I am now happy that I have a suitable set of spares.  I shall update the relevant article before we leave to show what we took.  Step 1 was to drain the main tank completely.  Then I added 5 litres of diesel along with a healthy dose of biocide.  After this I went for a 'spirited' drive giggling and swilling the diesel about in the tank.  Al this time I ran from the small auxilliary tank.

Once I was back home I drained this out of the tank and it was completely black and smelled of stagnant water.

Then came the painful bit a trip to the garage. £189 laterSurprised the tank was full to the brim with 162 litres (less than I thought) for bicide treated diesel.  I changed the fuel filters and went for a short drive to flush out any old oil.

Tomorrow I am off to Kings Langley for a meeting so, hopefully I will flush out any remaining bugs on the way.

We all at Aquaterra hope that preparation is going well. The sweepstake to identify the location of your first breakdown has created quite a lot of interest. I would like to point out that Tim has placed his marker on the M25 and not for the return journey. Best of luck Christian

I'm glad to see that my colleague has so much faith in my mechanical abilities.
I now intend to go via the blackwall tunnel to avoid the M25 :o)
