"No man can live this life and emerge unchanged. He will carry the imprint of the desert, the brand which marks the nomad; and he will have a yearning to return. For this cruel land can cast a spell which no temperate climate can match."

A long day

Yesterday turned into a very long day.  For various reasons I had the day off and was at home.  So I arranged to have cruise control fitted.

The 1996 model year had cruise control fitted as standard but alos added additional complications, like electronic fuel injection and diesel management.  I prefer the simplicity of my mechanical fuel pump and no 'black boxes'.

Following the 1000 mile slog down, and back up, through France on the trip to Tunisia the ability to comfortably maintain a constant speed for mile after mile became high on the agenda.  Although it is quite feasable to do it without cc, as I did, my experience of it on other cars made me add it to my wishlist.

I did a fair bit of research and found that there is a straightforward kit available which is sold and fitted by numerous outlets across the country.  In the end I choose Howard May Ltd, following good reviews on various forums plus, they offered a home fitting service.

I shall write a full article on the set up once I've had a chance to take some pictures and test it some more.

Unfortunately for Steve, who came to fit the kit, he hit some traffic delays and didn't arrive untill after 13:00.  In addition, due to an error on my part, he was unaware of the amount of kit and modifications fitted to my disco.  As a result he finally finished the install at 19:30, in the dark, cold and damp, and then we took her out for a 'calibration run'.  Following this he had a 3 hour drive back to his base!

An intial test, this morning on my way to the airport, was very promising.  With easy operation, smooth speed changes and an installation which looks 'factory fitted' I am very happy.

Thanks Steve.
