"No man can live this life and emerge unchanged. He will carry the imprint of the desert, the brand which marks the nomad; and he will have a yearning to return. For this cruel land can cast a spell which no temperate climate can match."

Morocco 3 - Rise of the Boldies (we're trying again)

Transmission oil temperature sender.

On our way back from a trip to Lakeside the transmission high oil temp warning light came on.  At the time the car was cruising along on the flat so I was pretty certain that the gearbox wasn't going to melt.

Stopping at our daughters (for a cuppa) I felt around the geabox and there was no feeling of excessive heat.  The oil was clear on the dipstick, there was no smell of burning and after an hour the light was still on, so I decided to continue home (50 miles).

Temp_sensorOnce at home I did some 'googling' and discovered that the sender unit for this is a renown weak point.

The sensor is mounted on the oil cooler pipes, just forward of the sump and is easy to get to.  The replacement was about £20.  I was worried that oil would leak out when I removed the old sender but the 'pocket' is dry so there was no need to worry.

The whole job took about 10 minutes.
