Introduction

Part One – Home to Tunis

Our journey begins with a 1000 mile trek across 3 countries and 2 continents.

Part Two – Tunis to Kairouan

Our journey continues from Tunis, via main road, to Kairouan.
A tour of the medina, a visit to a preserved Tunisian house and the spectacle of the Great Mosque

Part Three – Kairouan to Kebili

Our journey continues from Kairouan via main road to our campsite at Kebili.
From here was head out across the seemingly endless plains of the Chott el Jerid to visit one of the original Star Wars film set, across thick glutenous mud to Camel Back Rock and then finally to Star Wars Canyon.

Part Four – Exploring the Chott el Jerid

From our base in Kebili we set out to spend 2 days and 2 nights, wild camping, in the Chott El Jerid. The terrain changes throughout the trip and we all learn the art of getting stuck.

Part Five – Kebili to Ksar Ghilane

From Kebili we then spent 3 days and 2 nights driving across the Sahara to reach the oasis at Ksar Ghilane, where I spent my 50th birthday.
We encountered camel trains, climbed a mountain (ish) and visited a roman fort.

Part Six – Ksar Ghilane to Zarat

From Ksar Ghilane we followed the pipeline road north until we joined a rugged mountain piste towards the coast.  Following a visit to another Star Wars set, Rommel’s war time bunker and the Mareth Line museum we eventually camped beneath a spectacular rainbow on the beach overlooking the Mediteranean.

Part Seven – Zarat to Port El Kantaoui

Leaving the beach, and driving on tarmac from no on, we headed to the tourist resort of Port El Kantaoui and our last stop in Tunisia.  En route we visited the spectacular amphitheatre at El Jem for a memorable hour.

Part Eight – Port El Kantaoui to Home

Our final journey in Africa takes us to Tunis where join the ferry to return to Europe.  After a rough crossing, the grid lock of Marseilles and a 1000 mile drive through France and England we finally arrive home.  Ready to go again….
